I have to be honest, LinkedIn is not my cup of tea. It’s not that I have anything against professional networking or connecting with like-minded individuals, but there are a few reasons why I’ve never really warmed up to it.
First and foremost, I’m not a fan of the whole “influencer” culture that seems to dominate on LinkedIn. Everyone is trying to sell something or promote themselves as an expert in their field. Personally, I find this kind of self-promotion off-putting. I have no interest in being influenced or influencing others in that way.
Secondly, I’ve always been more interested in meaningful interactions rather than accumulating connections for the sake of it. On social media platforms like LinkedIn, it’s all too common to see people engaging in toxic debates or simply trying to boost their own egos by tearing others down. That’s not the kind of environment I want to be a part of.
To make matters worse, LinkedIn has recently taken a turn for the worse in my opinion. It seems like they’re trying to become more like other ~~marketplace~~ social media platforms by introducing features that prioritize engagement over quality content. The platform has become cluttered with clickbait articles and posts that add little value.
Having said all that, there are still some interesting pieces that pop up on my feed from time to time. It’s those rare gems that keep me from deleting my account altogether. But overall, I find myself gravitating towards other platforms where the content is more curated and the interactions are more genuine. Platforms like Reddit, Discord, or Slack. Although, I guess we can say that they also started their _enshitification_ in some ways…
That’s why I’ve decided to write on my personal website instead. This is my own space where I can express myself without worrying about algorithms or popularity contests. If you happen to stumble upon my website and like some of my content, that’s great! [[Contact|Don't hesitate to reach out to me even]] 🙂
